In English, we use several different words to show cause and effect. Examples are: for, because, as, since, therefore, hence, as a result, consequently, due to, because of, as a result of. The Connectors can be used to show contrast, purpose, sequence, etc.
One of the best ways to improve your writing style is to use sentence connectors. Sentence connectors are used to express relationships between ideas and to combine sentences.
The use of these connectors will add sophistication to your writing style.

Sentence connectors can do more than show cause and result.
  • Because, as, since, though, and others are followed by an adjunct clause expressing reason/cause. The cause-clause may be placed before or after the effect-clause.
  • Consequently (adverb) and as a result (prepositional phrase) are connectives that transition the reader from the idea expressed in one clause to the idea expressed in the next clause. These connectives are followed by a clause expressing the effect of situation stated in the clause before it. A comma separates the adverb from the clause.
  • Transitions connect ideas between two sentences. They are used commonly in formal writing but rarely in spoken English. The transitions therefore and consequently mean “as a result.” They occur in the second of two related sentences and can have a variety of positions within the second sentence. Compare the following examples, which all have the same meaning:
